Reporting from AT&T Shape and our Ericsson setups

We have recently participated [https://resin.io/blog/shape-att-tech-expo-2016/] in Shape- the AT&T Tech Expo in San Francisco- as a partner of Ericsson [https://www.ericsson.com/]. There we have demoed our platform as applied to the applications Ericsson is building across multiple areas. We have recently participated in Shape, the AT&T Tech Expo in San Francisco, as a partner of Ericsson. There we have demoed our platform as applied to the applications Ericsson is building across multiple areas.

Check out the slides from the event:

Taken out of the slide deck, here are some more details regarding the core ideas.

Set-Top-Box for Future Homes

The main demo was a Raspberry Pi 3 based media player application with smart home features. In this demo when a movie started to play, the media player sent a message (through the MQTT protocol) which triggered a WeMo smart electric switch to turn off a lamp connected to it (imitating a living room movie night scenario). Once the movie ended or was stopped, another message from the media player triggered the smart switch to turn the light back on.

Smart Set-Top-Box for Future Homes

The application was pushed to the Raspberry Pi 3 via resin, and we could easily make changes to the light control system, both by changing the code and redeploying, and by changing behaviour via environment variables.

The whole setup can be very small and inconspicuous, the Raspberry Pi, above, is barely larger than the smart switch itself.

Drone Fleet Management

Another topic was drone fleet management. This time it was a static demo, unlike the very live demo at DockerCon 16, check that out here. The focus was looking at different use cases and deployment possibilities.

Vehicle and robotics software updates are becoming ever more important and pressing issues, thus it is very timely to plan solutions now.

We had quite a variety of visitors at Shape, providing a lot of interesting feedback. If you have any application where you think resin.io can help you with your software deployment needs, you can always find us at [email protected] or on our Gitter chat channel!
